01 / Workload

Turn a GPU requirement into a purchase plan.

Start with the job the GPU needs to do. Configuration and capacity follow from a representative workload.

Production inference

Requests
Model
Responses

Start with concurrent users, request lengths and response-time requirements. Test representative requests before selecting baseline capacity and an approach to peak demand.

Inputs for sizing

  • Concurrent users
  • Request length
  • Response time

Fine-tuning

Dataset
Tuning job
Model output

Identify the base model, dataset size and expected job duration. Plan the tuning job, output storage and subsequent inference separately, so a one-off task does not become an unnecessary recurring compute cost.

Inputs for sizing

  • Base model
  • Dataset size
  • Job duration

Training and multi-GPU workloads

Data loading
Multi-GPU job
Checkpoints

Assess inter-GPU communication, data loading and checkpoint storage alongside memory and GPU count. Establish the model licence and workload before deciding whether a cluster is appropriate.

Inputs for sizing

  • GPU memory & count
  • GPU communication
  • Data & checkpoints
Resource specification, costs and capacity checks

Specify the cloud or supplier, resource configuration, account arrangement and term in the proposal. Assess single- or multi-GPU options and dedicated or shared capacity against the project’s requirements and available supply.

  • For a resource quote, share the preferred GPU or minimum GPU memory, quantity, expected concurrency or job schedule, region and start date.
  • Separate compute, storage, network traffic and agreed implementation or operating fees. Confirm currency, taxes, billing periods and resource-release conditions in the quotation.
  • Use sanitised samples or existing test results to assess capacity. Confirm configuration availability, quotas and supply conditions before arranging procurement and validation.

02 / Deployment path

Choose where the model will run.

A private connection and a model running on your own GPU are different arrangements. Compare the operating boundary before choosing a path.

Private access to a hosted model

Your application
Private connection, if supported

Provider environment

Model runtime

Boundary illustration. Availability, licensing and implementation scope require project-specific confirmation.

Who runs the model
Upstream model provider
What needs confirming
Private access, processing location and retention

Check whether the target service supports the required private connection. The provider still runs the model. Review processing location, logging and retention; a private endpoint does not mean data stays entirely within your environment.

Run the model in your cloud account or VPC

Your cloud account / VPC

Your application
GPU + model service
External dependencies must be checked

Boundary illustration. Availability, licensing and implementation scope require project-specific confirmation.

Who runs the model
Responsibilities agreed for your account
What needs confirming
Model licence, IAM, network and external dependencies

For models licensed for self-hosting, plan GPU resources, serving, storage and access controls within your account. Review workload data, management connections and external dependencies separately.

Use your own GPU equipment

Your GPU equipment

Your application
GPU + model service
Licensed model & runtime

Boundary illustration. Availability, licensing and implementation scope require project-specific confirmation.

Who runs the model
Customer and implementation team, as agreed
What needs confirming
Hardware, runtime, model rights and administrator access

Assess existing servers, drivers, networking and storage. Agree who handles model acquisition and licensing, image delivery, administrator access and any on-site work.

Restricted-network or offline operation

Validated restricted environment

Your application
GPU + model service
External dependencies must be checked

Boundary illustration. Availability, licensing and implementation scope require project-specific confirmation.

Who runs the model
Responsibilities agreed for your environment
What needs confirming
Offline installation, licences, updates and the full data path

Review model and software licences, offline installation, licence checks and update dependencies first. Include offline operation in scope only after the full data path and external dependencies have been validated against the requirement.

Licensing, data boundaries and implementation responsibilities

Private connectivity, deployment in your cloud account and deployment on your own equipment have different scopes. A hosted model API does not grant downloadable model weights. The available approach depends on licensing, region, resource availability and the agreed project scope.

  • Assign responsibility for resource procurement, model and data rights, networking, identity and access, image updates, monitoring, backups and incident handling before implementation.
  • Document the target environment, model version, access method, configuration and test records, and any work that depends on the customer or upstream provider.

03 / Define the handover

A defined route from assessment to handover.

Agree the scope before implementation. Each stage has a decision and a record to hand over.

  1. Assess the starting pointGoals, constraints and existing environment

Review existing cloud accounts, applications, documents or datasets, permissions and network restrictions. Establish business goals, budget and data-handling requirements using sanitised material, without requesting production keys.

  2. Agree the proposalResources, responsibilities and itemised costs

Specify the resource source, region, configuration, account ownership, implementation scope, cost components and appropriate contracting entity. Compare ongoing operating costs as well as resource charges.

  3. Validate in a controlled pilotRepresentative samples and agreed acceptance criteria

Agree test samples, output quality, concurrency, latency, failure recovery and usage reconciliation. Proceed against agreed acceptance criteria; revise the plan or stop that stage if the criteria are not met.

  4. Launch and hand overConfiguration, access, billing and operating records

Hand over the agreed configuration, versions, access inventory, billing basis and operating instructions. For an exit or migration, separately agree data export, access revocation, resource release and retention obligations.

See what the quotation contains.

Resource charges and delivery work are separate cost components. Confirm the applicable items and billing terms in the proposal.

Inquiry information and stage conditions

Agree a comparable, costed proposal before arranging resources and implementation. Assessment, pilot, launch and ongoing support can be scoped and purchased as separate stages.

  • To start an inquiry, share the purchasing entity and countries or regions of actual use, target model or task, existing environment, expected usage, budget range and timeline.
  • For implementation or ongoing support, identify the project owner, desired coverage hours, acceptance process and internal approvals. Response arrangements and service conditions are agreed in the contract.

Workload and capacity

Distinguish inference, fine-tuning and training. Provide model licensing, parameter count, precision, context length, concurrency and sample workloads to estimate memory, compute and scaling needs rather than purchasing on GPU model alone.
